Why We Avoid Taking Colin to the Pediatrician...

Sorry for not posting for a long time but, Colin has not been feeling well. He has been very irritable and his fever spiked higher than ever yesterday-103! We decided to take him to the pediatrician and (fingers crossed) hoped for a normal ear infection or strep throat. As always, there was no easy explanation for this high fever so where do you think the pediatrician sent us??? Any guesses???

Of course-Upstate ER!! AND...after 3 needle sticks and squeezing Colin's limbs for every last bit of blood all of the results came back.....NEGATIVE!! Of course they did. Although, they did show he was a little dry which Tim and I already knew. We had already gone down on his diuretics a few days ago. We noticed that he wasn't sweating or crying any tears but, we were afraid to give him too much fluid because then he blows up. Our nurse told us they did not know what was causing the fevers but, they do know that Colin is really cute (of course we already knew that!) We didn't get home until 11:30 last night and we are all a little cranky. Colin got Pedialyte all night and no diurectis and he was drenched with sweat this morning and slept really good and his temp this morning was NORMAL! We go to see Dr. K at 1:00 to figure out what the new plan is. Colin did get lots of visitors-all of the residents that know Colin all too well. Colleen the Child Life Specialist got Colin a Wiggles video!! Even the admitting clerk came in to our room to say hi and she remembers us from our Nov and Dec ER visits!! It is not a good thing to have the local ER staff know your child!! We were happy to go home but, would have liked to see our favorite 4A nurses!!

One more thing-Colin's sats were 94 when we got to the ER so, they didn't hook him up to any monitors or O2. That was a first!!

I know everyone continues to pray for Colin but, he needs some more. We'll keep everyone posted on how he is doing.

Gotta hate those trips to the ER! We've ended up transfered 2 out of 3 trips we've made - one by helicopter! Is Colin getting teeth? Most docs say its coincidental, but my girls both ran fevers with teeth cutting. Then again they also always got teeth in two's! Hopefully Colin & you all get some rest everyone's feeling better soon! Way to go on the sats, too!

Heart Hugs!

YIKES!~
These babies act up in waves...they see who can out "perform" the other! Stinkers!
Pedialyte always does the trick for Isaac when he's having yucky days. I don't know what it is about that stuff.
Glad to know that he's fever free today though...and that you guys were able to rest.
GEEZ...will our lives ever get any calmer?? Probably not...they'll like girls soon and then it will be a whole new crazy!!!
Hope the C-man feels better today and YOU ALL have a grumpy-free day!
Kathy

I wish he didn't have to go through all that just to be told he is cute. I am happy he didn't have anything wrong...but what explains the 103 temp. AGH!! Hope he continues to feel well. I will keep you guys in my prayers.

I wish he would shake this temperature thing but we are so glad it was nothing big. Hopefully just that he is too dry. With the hot weather he will need plenty of extra fluids by mouth if he takes it. Sats are great. Be strong and we will see you hopefully in May. Love, Nanna and Grandpa XXXOOO

Sats 90's fantastic. Wish the high temps would go away. I have to agree with the hosptial teams - Colin you are so darn cute! Your smile melts everyone's heart. My prayers for Colin will continue. With the good weather we'll be anxious to get outside and play in the dirt. Mel & Tim wait until Colin takes a handful of dirt and shoves it in his mouth! You'll know he's happy then. Hope you have an uneventful weekend. Love Ya Auntie Cyn

Sorry to hear about the trip to the ER. Glad that it didn't require an overnight and that his 02 sats were so high. Hopefully Dr. K will get to the bottom of the fever.

Ugh... poor little guy...
and poor mom and dad!

Well... maybe I shouldn't admit this... BUT...
that first year, we'd RUSH off to the ER for temps...

but then ...

after it never being anything...

we don't do it anymore ...

we just treat w/ pain reliever and Midol (we switch back and forth)
and keep him hydrated w/ Pedialyte.

We found that we end up spending 8 hours for nothing...
and we can do what they did....??

*big sigh*

We know this story all too well. This almost duplicates our experience with Elijah a few weeks ago. I hate high temps! Especially when there is no explanation. Sending you guys hugs!!
